Disable conversation history while collecting sensitive speech
September 24, 2026 · release
@voicethere/agent
Conversation history stores final user speech and agent TTS text on the dashboard Conversation tab. Skip that storage when the caller is about to say a PIN, password, or card number.
What shipped
setConversationHistoryEnabled, enableConversationHistory, and disableConversationHistory on @voicethere/agent stop or resume storing turns for one session.
conversationHistoryAvailable on session start follows the deployed project setting. Enable fails with reason: "disabled" if the project has history off. Disable still runs.
Laptop verify resolves with local_mock when there is no parent process.
Text history is not conversation recording (the audio file). Pause recording if you need to omit audio frames. See Conversation recording.
Try it
- Docs: Conversation history
- Dashboard: Project overview → Session settings → Conversation history (then deploy)
- Opt out at project level:
voicethere projects session-settings set conversation_history_enabled false
voicethere deploy --wait
Disable before they speak the PIN:
import {
disableConversationHistory,
enableConversationHistory,
speak,
} from "@voicethere/agent";
await disableConversationHistory(sessionId);
await speak(sessionId, "Please say your PIN. I will not save this part.");
// …caller speaks the secret…
await enableConversationHistory(sessionId);
The full agent handler, including conversationHistoryAvailable, is on the conversation history docs page. A turn already in the pipeline can still land in storage once.
